The Romanian Diplomacy Gala 2026 Celebrated Excellence in Diplomacy, Business and Culture
The Security Studies and World Politics Association (SSWP), in partnership with the National Opera Bucharest, organized the Romanian Diplomacy Gala on Monday, 5 October 2026. The event brought together representatives of public institutions, the diplomatic corps, the business community and the academic and cultural communities, alongside young professionals and students.
“Celebrating Those Who Advance Romania”
About the Gala
The Gala put the spotlight on the contributions of those who represent Romania through diplomatic work, entrepreneurial initiatives and artistic creation. The event offered a setting for dialogue between generations, bringing together institutions, the diplomatic community and the business sector, in keeping with SSWP’s mission of bringing young people closer to international relations and public life.
The Gala also offered a contemporary perspective on how Romania is represented and how its international prestige is built, highlighting the complementary contributions of institutions, artists and entrepreneurs to the development of society.

Speeches and Messages
“We are hosting the Romanian Diplomacy Gala, and we have been practicing cultural diplomacy for a very long time. But I believe what matters most this evening is youth. The fact that they care about dialogue and normality, and have cultural interests, is for me the best and most beautiful thing.”
“I have often noticed that it is easier to discourage than to encourage, and easier to destroy than to build. I want us to contribute, step by step, to a change in mentality: to trust one another more, to support each other and to aspire to excellence, both personally and as a Romanian community.”
The message focused on social cohesion, mutual trust and the shared effort to develop Romanian society. Through this initiative, SSWP aims to promote intergenerational dialogue and encourage young people to pursue excellence in their fields.
“Cultural diplomacy is not a shop window in which we display our values; it is a conversation: we say who we are, and we are ready to listen to the other.”
“The Romanian Diplomacy Gala puts before the new generation examples of performance, integrity and public responsibility. Excellence is not an abstract ideal; it is built through sustained work, high standards and accountability. I believe these values must not only be recognized, but also carried forward.”
“The Romanian Diplomacy Gala is about the people who, through their work, give Romania credibility and value. At a time when we need trust in institutions and in those who represent them, I believe it is important to put performance in the spotlight and show that it deserves to be recognized.”
“The hourglass of more than three decades of transition has run out. The era of ambiguity and historical improvisation is over. An entire generation carried on its shoulders the burden of rebuilding from a post-communist ruin, but today our historical apprenticeship has come to an end. We have left behind the inferiority complexes, the lowered gaze and the paralyzing nostalgia. This is a moment of full maturity for the Romanian state, a moment when the past asks for forgiveness and the future claims its rights. This future is no longer written with hesitation, but with the rigor of a generation that knows exactly who it is, where it stands and what it has to defend: democracy.”

The event was honored by the presence in the audience of Her Majesty Margareta, Custodian of the Romanian Crown, who gave this edition a special significance. Institutional messages were delivered by:

Art as a Universal Language
The distinctions took the form of diplomas and works of art created by Lisandru Neamțu, a professor at the National University of Arts Bucharest (UNARTE) and a contemporary artist whose works have been shown in numerous WIN Gallery exhibitions. By choosing these awards, the organizers and the award sponsors, WIN Alliance, reaffirmed the role of art as a universal language.
Choosing the artist’s works placed art at the center of an evening dedicated to diplomacy. The gesture carries particular meaning: in a world where a country’s image is built not only through official speeches but also through culture, creativity and the capacity to generate dialogue, a work of art becomes a form of representation in itself.
“Art and, by extension, culture transcend borders, time and preconceptions. They are a force, an incredible element at our disposal.”
Irina Stoenescu, Vice President of WIN Alliance and President of WIN Gallery
Closing Concert
The evening ended with a concert by the Orchestra of the National Opera Bucharest, conducted by Daniel Jinga, with soprano Daniela Cârstea, mezzo-soprano Adelina Copcioban, baritone Iordache Basalic and tenor Andrei Petre. The program reflected the multicultural spirit of the Gala and brought together works such as “Nessun dorma” by Giacomo Puccini, “La donna è mobile” by Giuseppe Verdi, “Chanson bohème” by Georges Bizet, “Balada” by Ciprian Porumbescu and “Romanian Rhapsody No. 1” by George Enescu.
